Write better, without cheating.
DigitSelect helps students and early-career researchers choose and use AI tools to write, cite and check academic work — without putting their academic integrity at risk.
The author
Hi, I'm Eliot Byteau
Editor — AI tools for academic writing
I write DigitSelect's guides on AI tools for academic writing: writing assistants, source discovery, citation management and AI detection. One obsession: help you save time without putting your degree at risk.
Generative AI changed how theses and papers get written, but it also created new risks: fabricated citations, accidental plagiarism, text flagged by detectors. Every guide starts from official documentation, public pricing, and university integrity policies. When a guide has not been tested hands-on, it says so.
The limits of every tool are always stated. If most universities forbid a use case, I say so plainly.
Why DigitSelect?
Dozens of tools promise to write your thesis for you. Most comparisons say nothing about fabricated citations, university policies or what detectors actually flag.
DigitSelect was born from that gap: an independent guide that explains which tool to use, for which step (research, drafting, citations, proofreading), and within which limits.
I don't list everything: I compare the tools that matter for academic work and explain how to use them in a way you can defend in front of a committee.
What sets me apart
100% independent
I refuse sponsored content dictated by brands. My editorial line is not for sale.
Verified sources
Every review relies on official documentation, public pricing and user feedback. No marketing copy-paste.
Full transparency
My reviews always include the flaws and limits of the tools. Perfection does not exist in software.
How I'm funded (transparency)
To stay independent and keep producing high-quality reviews without intrusive ad banners, I use affiliate links.
This means that if you subscribe to a tool through one of my links, I may earn a commission. It never increases the price for you, and it never biases my opinion. If a tool is mediocre, I will say so — whether it has an affiliate program or not.
